What You Need To Know About the "Bird Flu"
“Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza A(H5N1) Virus Infections in Humans”
Assuming that most of you don’t read the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), I wanted to share this article in simple terms. I left the title exactly as it was printed, so I am assuming that you are expecting another epic fear-based rant!
Findings among the 46 cases identified between March and October 2024 documented mild symptoms of bloodshot eyes (conjunctivitis-93%), fever (49%), and respiratory symptoms in 36%. One third of cases had conjunctivitis only! People were sick, on average for 4 days and all received oseltamivir (Tamiflu).
All cases but one were due to direct animal exposure, both dairy cows and chickens. Absolutely zero cases of human to human transmission occurred, all close contacts were screened for H5N1… So why such disparate results with a worldwide total of 900 cases with a 50% mortality?
The authors don’t even attempt to answer this important question. What we do know is that in America, this is a virus that is not transmissible among humans and causes a very mild illness. It is easily treatable with oseltamivir, whereas I would utilize the Acute Viral Protocol, as with all cases of “flu”.
Of course the virus may shift, but at this moment in history, the avian flu does not require any of your psychological bandwidth. Don’t buy into the fear generated by mass-media. The reason this article is unlikely to get much “airplay” is that it documents how minor a risk this virus currently is to humans.
Will the CDC be allowed to continue monitoring? I hope so. Another question yet to be answered.
